The Football Association of Ireland is inviting expressions of interest from clubs wishing to participate in a new women's under-17 National League.
The proposed league, which mirrors underage leagues set up at under-19, under-17 and under-15 level in the men's game, seeks to bridge the gap between schoolgirl and senior level.
It's envisioned that the new league will kick off in March or April of 2018, in line with the Women's National League calendar, and will encompass clubs from all over the country.
Squads will be limited to 20 players per team and coaches will be required to have a minimum of a UEFA B License in order to participate.
Clubs wishing to make a preliminary submission should do so by Friday, October 20th by registered post to the FAI, as detailed in the statement copied below.
FAI statement seeking preliminary expressions of interest for a women's under-17 National League
The Football Association of Ireland is seeking preliminary expressions of interest from clubs or entities to participate in a new Women’s Under 17 National League.
The growth of the women's game in Ireland has accelerated in recent years and this was proven with 45 teams competing at the FAI 2017 Gaynor Tournament in Limerick. We now have 22,960 registered players in Ireland so it's important we look to the next step in the progression of women's football.
A new Women's Under 17 National League will bridge the gap for our top players between underage football and the Continental Tyres Women's National League.
The proposed start date for new Under 17 National League will be March/April 2018. Squad limits will be 20 players per team and there is a minimum requirement of a UEFA B licence for the coach.
Clubs or entities who intend to express an interest should do so by registered post to the address given below by Friday 20th October, stating name, contact and current or intended underage development structures.
