Shelbourne Ladies captain Pearl Slattery has been named Continental Tyres Women's National League Player of the Month for August.

August saw Shelbourne go unbeaten as they won both of their league games along with drawing two and winning one of their Champions League group games.

Slattery started as Shelbourne recorded a 2-1 victory over Cork City on August 5 and came on as a substitute in a 3-2 victory over Wexford Youths four days later.

Shels' attention then turned to the Champions League as they drew 0-0 with Polish side Medyk Konin and PK-35 Vantaa of Finland.

While they didn't progress to the next round of the Champions League, goals from Fiona Donnolly, Kate Mooney and Niamh Prior saw Shelbourne, captained by Slattery record a 3-1 victory over hosts Linfield to end their campaign.

Both Slattery and Shels' good form continued in September as she captained her side to victory in the Women's National League Cup final against Peamount United on penalties, after a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Slattery expressed her delighted at winning the award but admitted Shelbourne were disappointed not to progress in European competition.

“I'm delighted to win the Continental Tyres Women's National League Player of the Month award for August.

“It was a really difficult month for us with five games in all. The Champions League matches were a great experience for the players and even though we were unbeaten, we were disappointed not to qualify for the round of 32,” Slattery said.
