Live Updates for Cork City -v- Derry City

90' + 1'

In the end, it seemed as if the effort on the road took more out of Derry than it did Cork. There was a freshness to the team perhaps lacking in some games. Derry battled on gamely but always looked likely to seize up possession and chances to the home side.

90' + 1'

FULL TIME!

The game has ended between Cork City and Derry City.

90'

Referee announces one minute extra time. Partially out of pity one suspects.

89'

Derry are completely demoralised now. They try from a free kick but it sails well over. Fairly collapsed in this half.

88'

Sadlier tries his luck with a curling effort that looks half cross half shot. It drifts just over the bar

87'

Man of the match announced as being Gary Buckley. His goal set us on track tonight.

85'

How much worse can it get for Derry tonight? The game had been going through a period of general inertia following a number of substitutions. The ball is played up to Beattie who unleashes a fierce drive. It is too hot for Doherty who palms it out. Ronan Coughlan is there to tap in his first goal since arriving from Bray. That will please him no end.

85'

GOAL!

Rónán Coughlan scores for Cork City.

76'

Substitution

Kieran Sadlier replaces Karl Sheppard for Cork City.

74'

Shane Griffin goes to ground after a run into the area. The faint hopes of a penalty are waved away by the referee. Simple loss of balance

70'

3573 souls in attendence tonight. Not bad at all for a Monday night

69'

Substitution

Aaron Barry replaces Sean McLoughlin for Cork City.

66'

Substitution

Rónán Coughlan replaces Graham Cummins for Cork City.

62'

Substitution

Adrian Delap replaces Ben Fisk for Derry City.

61'

GOAL!

Damien Delaney scores for Cork City.

61'

Delaney's first goal at the cross since....has he ever scored here before?! A simple header from a few yards out following a cross.

61'

GOAL!

Damien Delaney scores for Cork City.

57'

Wonderful ball sprayed out by Delaney to Beattie. His cross is met by Cummins but he fails to make sufficient contact on it. The recent subsitiute Eoin Toal did well to put him off though

56'

Substitution

Eoin Toal replaces Gavin Peers for Derry City.

56'

Substitution

Conor McDermott replaces Jamie McDonagh for Derry City.

54'

Gavin Peers becomes the third Derry player to be booked. Going in late on Karl Sheppard

54'

Yellow Card

Gavin Peers is booked for Derry City.

50'

A real team goal by Cork. The ball gets cleared out of defense. No hoofed clearances though. Ball to feet and finding players in space. The midfield combine again before Keohane injects the urgency. He plays it wide to Cummins. His low cross is met by Buckley for his second.

50'

GOAL!

Garry Buckley scores for Cork City.

46'

No changes as Derry try and get some way back into this game.

46'

Second Half

The second half between Cork City and Derry City has started.

45' + 2'

The home team is firmly in charge at the moment. Derry have looked decent enough at times but struggled to carve out too many clear opportunities. Those which did come their way were spurned. City have been very much on the front foot tonight and determined to build on their advantage.

45' + 2'

Half Time

It is half-time between Cork City and Derry City.

45' + 1'

Sheppard looks in pain as he is taken down by the Derry midfielder. The resulting free is headed just over.

45' + 1'

Yellow Card

Jamie McDonagh is booked for Derry City.

45'

McNamee seems to be in the mood tonight. He is found in space again before playing a lovely ball to Cummins. The striker cannot react in time or eelse he would have been clear on goal.

41'

Should have been three. Great work between Beattie and McNamee sets up another opportunity. Cummins is found with six yards out but he is too casual with his attempt and it is cleared off the line by Darren Cole.

37'

Derry almost get a reply. A set piece causes panic in the area. It is saved on the line from Gavin Peers and the follow up by Aaron McEneff is cleared off the line by a combination of Steven Beattie and Peter Cherrie.

34'

Doherty will not want to see this again. Cummins does superbly to win the ball and turn with it under close attention. He lays it off to Keohane who tries his luck again. His effort is well placed but squirms under the hands of the Derry keeper. Should have done better.

34'

GOAL!

Jimmy Keohane scores for Cork City.

27'

One for the scrapbook. Delaney finds himself in an advanced position again and finds Keohane with a wonderful pass. His attempted cross is deflected out for a corner.

20'

Derry might point to their close shout but Cork deserve this. They have been far more clever in possession and harried in packs whenever Derry threatened.

19'

Very well worked opener. Derry had been attacking with menace before it broke down. Delaney intercepted and played into midfield. McNamee took up the cause and played a couple of neat patterns with himself, Sheppard and Buckley before releasing the latter in on goal. He composed himself before slotting the ball past Doherty. Deadlock broken.

19'

GOAL!

Garry Buckley scores for Cork City.

18'

Derry are carving out a few half chances but should do better here. They break down the right hand side before playing the ball into the box. Hale is well placed but his effort somehow goes over the bar. Will they regret that?

17'

The supporters howl their annoyance at the length of time taken by Doherty on his kick-outs. John Cotter has a quiet word in the ear of the fourth official

15'

Derry look ill at ease with another set piece. A McNamee corner is only partially punched away by Ger Doherty. The referee blows for an indiscretion by Cummins though.

12'

Darren Cole is booked for a late challenge on Gary Buckley down by the sideline. The resulting free is just flicked away from Graham Cummins.

12'

Yellow Card

Darren Cole is booked for Derry City.

11'

Ball forward in the aim of finding Hale. Damien Delaney uses his experience to guide it back to his keeper.

7'

Keohane again in the action. He finds Gary Buckley who plays a great ball down the channel to Karl Sheppard. His low cross is perfect for Barry McNamee who is challenged at the very last gasp to prevent the opener.

6'

Sean McLoughlin strides forward and plays it to Keohane in space. He is prompted by the crowd to shoot and his 25 yarder whistles just wide.

2'

Derry come themselves at the other end. Ronan Hale is found in space on the right had side. His shot is blocked but falls to Ben Fisk. His effort is deflected away for a corner. It is subsequently cleared.

This game finished 5-2 earlier on in the season. Positive approach again so far.

1'

City attack the shed end in this half and straight away win a free kick after Jimmy Keohane is bundled over. He takes the free and Karl Sheppard is not too far of with a flick.

1'

GAME ON!

The game between Cork City and Derry City has kicked off.

0'

Strange that a game involving the teams who have the longest journey to play one another have both taken place on a Monday. The last one was a bank holiday though. It might explain the lack of Derry fans in the ground tonight.

0'

Cork go with the same eleven who took the field against Legia. Mark McNulty, John Dunleavy and Kieran Sadlier continue on the bench. Gearoid Morrissey is absent altogether.

Derry reward Ronan Hale with a starting position after his goal in Minsk. Rory Hale drops out of the squad.

0'

Good evening and welcome to Turners Cross. Philip Morrissey reporting for Extratime.ie. Tonight sees a return to league action after recent European disappointment for both sides. Derry City will be kicking themselves after coming so close to progressing. One more goal would have seen them through on away goals. They were left rueing a tame defeat at home. Cork faded towards the game in Warsaw to bow out of the Champions League. They have another chance in the Europa League qualifier which has pitted them against the loser of Celtic and Rosenberg.

Both must put issues out of their mind and concentrate on the matter at hand. The home team aim to close the gap on Dundalk. Derry have the likes of Shamrock Rovers and Waterford ahead of them in terms of European places for next year. They have gotten used to playing at the higher level hope not to be the ones to miss out on this occassion.
